Patrick Guthrie, CFA, is a Director at AltaView and is located in the firm’s Baltimore–Washington, D.C.  metropolitan office. He has over 20 years of experience valuing securities for private and public companies globally.  Patrick has served as the senior valuation professional on over 500 business appraisals and has independently reviewed over 1,000 valuations.  He has sustained business valuations that have been reviewed by the IRS and SEC.

Patrick has particular expertise assisting family offices with important financial decisions regarding their business investments for tax, estate, and management planning purposes. He works closely with clients and their management teams, advisors, and subject matter experts to design, implement, and manage significant planning and restructuring transactions while meeting their compliance and valuation needs.

Patrick also has expertise in the following areas:

  • Tax reporting: Gift, estate, and generation skipping trust (706); appraisal of preferred and common stock (409A); valuations of asset holding entities (LLCs and LPs), S-corp or C-corp conversion, and Net Unrealized Built-In Gains (NUBIG).

  • Financial reporting: Business combinations (ASC 805), goodwill impairment (ASC 350), complex equity allocations (ASC 718), and private equity portfolio investments (ASC 820).

  • Business planning: Financial modeling, liquidity analysis, transaction advisory, JV formation and divestitures, inter-generational family ownership planning, and ESOPs.

  • Regulatory and investor reporting: Independent investment appraisals for internal compliance or external investor communications used by family offices, financial institutions, and investment management companies.

 

Prior to joining AltaView, Patrick was the national practice lead for Tax and Business Planning valuation services at RSM US LLP. In this role, Patrick coordinated with regional tax leaders to assist family offices and family-owned businesses with their tax and business planning needs.  Patrick started his career at The Baker-Meekins Company, a mid-Atlantic valuation firm specializing in valuation services for tax planning and ESOPs.
